The  purpose of Jesus parables is to cause some holy discomfort so that as we percolate on them we can understand the Kingdom of God and how we are called to participate. How are you being called to be a mustard seed in the Kingdom?

In Luke 13 Jesus teaches through the parable of the weeds and the wheat. We learned that evil is real and intentional in the world. We also learn the posture that distinguishes the wheat from the weeds at the time of the harvest. Can you bow in humility like the wheat?

In Matthew 13:10-17, Jesus explains why he teaches in parables. The significance of his teaching deepens for us when we understand that Jesus is quoting from Isaiah 6. What keeps you from seeing, hearing and understanding these words  of Jesus that “come alongside” his teachings?

Our guest preacher for the day is Mwenge Muyombi, lay leader of the Kigoma District in the Tanzania GMC Annual conference. Mwenge’s father brought Methodism to Tanzania in 1989 and Mwenge shares how the Holy Spirit empowers the church to feed the orphans and widows and start churches under trees. Tanzanian leadership is largely creating local GMC churches from nothing and bringing people to faith in Christ by sharing the love of Christ.

Acts 1:1-11 describes the culmination of the ministry of Christ in His Ascension.  We learn why it so critical for us to move from staring up to the sky to getting in the “wheelbarrow”.

Luke 24 records two on the road to Emmaus having an unexpected encounter with the resurrected Christ. Their response illustrates that the story we live in, and the story that lives in us, is the story we live out.

In John 21:15-25, we see the resurrected Christ commissioning Peter rather than criticizing him. Peter remains mostly like we see him throughout the scriptures, and thankfully Jesus remains unchanged in his grace and love.
